Women Who Wow #PressForProgress
Amidst the parity movements, we marvel at women who paved the way with their brands, creating waves of beauty around the world.
Kat Burki’s revolutionary approach to skincare stems from her early disciplined training in Nutrition. Her passion for health and wellness led her to a Health Law degree and a Masters in Health Policy, ultimately joining scientists and epidemiologists researching regional diseases around the globe and their link to nutrition.
Understanding the connection between skincare and healthcare, Kat was inspired to create her eponymous beauty brand. Equal parts brains and beauty, she is mobilizing all efforts to bring proven therapeutic concepts to the world of beauty.
Edgy and brave, Melbourne-based Christianna Heideman traversed the globe from India to New York from the age of 19, collecting precious jewels, tall tales and dollops of inspiration along the way. Inspired by what it means to be a modern woman, the successful girl-boss, jeweller, creator, and lover of unicorns never wastes time wallowing on tough times or mistakes.
Gathering ideas from a rich and full life while keeping it real, Christianna translates her personality into her label – part sexy, part charming, part naughty, and still a little bit delicate.
Famous for being the doctor to the stars, Dr Georgia Lee is also known for her botox and filler treatments. Through her fashionable instagram photos and the hours she puts into her clinic, you would think this doctor has 48 hours in a day.
While her clinical experience gave her the confidence to start her very own skincare line, it was her personal experience that provided the final push. A serious allergic reaction resulted in blisters that covered the left side of her face, leaving her with persistent hyperpigmentation which only resolved after treatment with a cream that she customized for herself. While traumatic, this episode piqued her interest in skincare and motivated her to delve further into its development.
Dr Lee is involved at every stage of DrGL® product development, from formula to manufacturing and packaging, always striving for the highest standards.Never one to settle for less than the best, Dr Lee brings this same demanding approach to DrGL®.
A world-renowned facialist and the founder of the EVE LOM brand, Eve Lom was born in Czechoslovakia and has been based in London since the early 1980s.
Eve first became interested in cosmetic chemistry while living in France. This led her to Hollywood, where she met the renowned skin specialist Georgette Klinger and began to learn about facial treatments.
In time, Eve moved to London where she studied anatomy, nutrition and massage techniques. She subsequently travelled to China to learn more about the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, before establishing her own salon and devising her legendary holistic facial treatment.
Terry de Gunzburg is a trailblazing industry legend who over the course of the past 30 years has changed the face of beauty.
Hailing from a family of scientists, Terry initially embarked on a career in medicine, but soon abandoned her studies for a more creative life. Cutting her teeth at the now fabled Carita beauty school in Paris she quickly became an in-demand studio makeup artist working across runway and editorial with some of the biggest names in fashion from Helmut Newton to Guy Bourdin. Her trademark beauty look has always been distinctive: imperceptible foundation, impeccable lips and thick, separated lashes.
But it was her collaboration with Yves Saint Laurent that would leave an indelible mark on fashion and beauty history. As International Makeup Designer of YSL Beauté for 15 years, Terry invented countless products and formulas, including the iconic Touché Eclat in 1992. Indeed, radiance and a healthy, but an invisible complexion has always been key to Terry’s approach to make up, so when she decided to launch her own collection of products in 1998, ByTerry was born as a bespoke 'couture' beauty line offering made to measure cosmetics.
A legend in the fragrance world, Chantal Roose created the Dear Rose fragrance house with her daughter, Alexandra Roos.
A fascination with perfume always kept Chantal and Alexandra close – and then one morning came the inspiration: ‘And what if we worked together…?’ Alas in 2014, Chantal and Alexandra translated their shared passion for perfume into their own enterprise: an initial quintet of fragrances composed by Grasse-based ‘nose’, Fabrice Pellegrin.
The concept behind the Dear Rose was to create a five-fragrance collection ‘to celebrate women’. As mother and daughter put it, ‘An essential expression of an everyday woman, in the rain and in the wind, in the street at night, during the white mornings and waking sun…’ Or to put it another way: ‘Five ways to wear a hat… to cross one’s legs and to coax a smile.’
