You might think it takes a bewilderingly long list of ingredients to formulate the range of fragrance, makeup, skincare and home offerings you see on the shelves today. In fact, it isn't that complicated.

As we celebrate 15 grand years of beauty this month, we have selected 15 of these simple, everyday ingredients that can be found in over 40 of the beauty and lifestyle products we will be featuring over a five-part series that will be pushed out throughout this month. In this series, Lavender, Orange Blossom and Acai Berry take the spotlight.

It’s hard not to fall in love with the calming scents of lavender. It rejuvenates the senses, reduces anxiety and stress and improves the quality of sleep. In the world of beauty, lavender restores health and radiance to skin, diminishing the appearance of blemishes and acne while slowing the process of ageing with powerful anti-oxidants.

REN Skincare Clearcalm 3 Replenishing Gel Cream

For those of us blighted with breakout and blemish-prone skin, this lightweight gel moisturiser might just be the answer. Formulated to leave skin replenished and soothed, this cream contains essential oil trifecta of lavender, chamomile and sage. Its mixture of lingonberry seed oil actively sourced from Japanese licorice extract and alpha-linoleic acid lighten scars caused by hyperpigmentation, makes skin less oily and eases chronic inflammation.

Apotheke French Lavender Hand & Body Soap

One of our favourite hand soaps, Brooklyn-based brand, Apotheke, employs natural ingredients to craft a range of home and body care offerings. This plant-based French Lavender Hand & Body Soap smells like a sweet dream, with calming lavender marrying with the notes of immortelle and sandalwood to create a light, soothing and pleasant floral fragrance for those weathered hands and body. That’s not all. It gently cleanses and hydrates for a refreshing feel, too.

Serge Lutens Gris Clair

Those who like floral, woody and musky notes will delight in Serge Lutens’ Gris Clair fragrance. An ode to lavender, it keeps the senses busy trying to make sense of it like a flame that doesn’t burn when you touch it. The juxtaposition of a chilly, shimmery “gray” lavender note against the warmer, sweeter blend of amber and tonka bean is almost irresistable. This depth and exotic feel is what we have come to expect of Serge Luten’s best creations.

Orange Blossom

A fragrant distillation of the fresh bitter orange flower, the bitter orange isn’t exactly the most palatable. But it is also its bitterness that makes it far more aromatic than other varieties of orange. That is why it has become a central ingredient in the fragrance industry. Its peel provides essential oils, and its leaves are used in the production of petitgrain oil, while its flowers are a key ingredient in the making of neroli and orange blossom absolute.

Orange Blossom

Serge Lutens Fleurs D'oranger Eau de Parfum

With its essence drawn from the highly scented blossom of the bitter orange tree, Serge Luten’s Fleurs D’Oranger sparkles with key notes of orange blossom, white jasmine, tuberose from India and white rose. Fresh, soft and delicate, this ultra-wearable fragrance is perfect when worn during the height of summer and enthralling as dusk arrives.

Le Labo Fleur D’Oranger 27

With each bottle blended by hand, Le Labo’s fragrances are a delight to have. In Fleur D’Oranger 27, the scent is gently enhanced by the fresh, floral and citrus notes of lemon, bergamot and orange blossom, with musk rounding off the edges nicely.

Diptyque Eau des Sens Eau de Toilette

Like an orchestra belting out a mesmerising musical score, diptyque’s Eau des Sens captivates the senses with its harmony of orange blossom, bitter orange, juniper berries, angelica and patchouli. It is the way that these various elements are arranged and composed that gives Eau des Sens its originality, and one that is sure to keep the senses on its toes.

 Acai Berry

The acai berry is packed with anthocyanin, a potent antioxidant that helps to improve poor blood circulation which is known to be related to ailments such as premature balding and heart problems. The acai berry also promotes a healthier skin as a rich source of vitamins A, C and E which are key to skin regeneration and overall health.

3LAB Perfect C Treatment Serum

This serum can help to firm up sagging skin, smoothen out fine lines and wrinkles as well as uneven tones, thanks to its potent line-up of acai berry extract, astanxanthin and ascorbyl glucoside combined with apple stem cell technology. Regular use of this serum can also boost the elasticity and luminosity of skin affected by age spots and hyperpigmentation due to sun damage.

Allies Of Skin Molecular Saviour Toner Mist

Composed of a cocktail of aloe and rose water, a blend of probiotics and anti-oxidants such as lactobacillus ferment and acai berry, the Molecular Saviour Toner Mist is a godsend for thirsty skin that will leave your complexion glowing and dewy. This toner mist contains a special anti-evaporation molecule so that it clings to skin cells instead of simply vanishing. We love spraying the mist onto our palms and pressing onto the face and neck after toner application.
